India’s archery team continued their golden run at the World Cup Stage 1 in Shanghai, securing their third gold medal in the mixed team compound event. Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Abhishek Verma displayed nerves of steel to defeat Estonia in a nail-biting final.
The match was a tense affair. Jyothi and Abhishek began flawlessly, grabbing a three-point lead thanks to a perfect opening round. Estonia’s Robin Jäätma and Meelis Gross refused to back down, responding with three perfect rounds themselves to tie the score.
Pressure mounted in the final end, where India needed 39 out of 40 points for victory. Unfazed, Jyothi and Abhishek delivered under immense pressure, clinching the gold medal with a score of 158-157.
This victory marked a special double for Jyothi, who had already bagged gold with the women’s compound team earlier. India’s dominance in the non-Olympic compound archery category is undeniable, and this win further strengthens their position as a powerhouse.
